Does waxing make you get ingrown hairs?

and if so, is there anything you can do to prevent getting ingrown hairs?Does waxing make you get ingrown hairs?
It can, although generally speaking it causes far less ingrown hairs than shaving. When you wax you remove the entire hair and the root, so an entire new hair has to grow it. Usually they are softer and less noticeable - at least over time.

I quit shaving all together about five years ago and have only waxed because I got rashes and ingrown hair from shaving no matter what I did. And I tried everything - sharper razors, hydrocortisone, creams, gels...

Anyway, waxing will make your skin sensitive for about 24 hours. the general rule is to avoid too much sunlight (some is ok, but don't try to tan), and take warm (not hot) showers afterward.Depending on where you wax it may be sensitive for longer. First time bikini waxing is not fun.

To avoid ingrown hair, a day before you wax exfoliate really well but don't hurt the skin. If you are doing it yourself start somewhere easy to see and easy to apply and remove wax. It hurts. Be brave and do NOT hesistate to remove strip! The longer it stays on the more chance of it taking a layer of skin with it! The more you do it, the less it hurts. Honestly, I would take the pain of waxing anyday over the annoyance of razor burn and frequent shaving. Also, you can take OTC anti-inflammatories before waxing - usually 1-2 hours - and they help minimize the pain and swelling (if you are doing somewhere sensitive).

If you get a ingrown hair, it will be weeks later. Exfoliate to help it come up, and apply basic acne cream to dry it out if it is forms a bump or cyst-like sore. I find that applying antibiotic cream or acne cream and then covering it with a bandaid to hold the cream right on it helps a lot.Does waxing make you get ingrown hairs?

For me it did. Make sure you exfoliate between waxing. Also, I asked my esthetycian, and she gave me a cream that helped.
