I think what you're asking is which to use and where to get it right? I personally only use salon products so I'll try to tell you what i know from my own experience. As far as spiking goes I think you'll have better results with the wax, mousse wont give you the full spikes and it usually wont hold through out the whole day. If you are going to use moose though i suggest using while your hair slightly damp and after you finish shaping it use hairspray for a better hold. If you want to use gel I would also use this method, but gel is really messy and harder to manipulate than wax or mouse.
Wax will ultimately hold better though but I suggest using this on completely dry hair, or barely damp, it's easier to shape that way. Wax is also usually strong enough that you don't have to use hairspray. When you use any of the product though use very very small amounts, they go further than you think and if you use too much your spikes will come out clumpy. As far as products go I would recommend using something from Matrix, Redken or Pual Mitchell. And get this you can usually get all these products at the Wal Mart salon, if you have them in CA, for half the price as high grade salons. They're the same product but a lot cheaper. Also try the JCPenny salon,I get mine here and I spend hundreds less for the same products that my friends buy at high grade salon stores, try waiting for them to go on sale. They still more expensive than over the counter products but you get what you pay for, salon will defiantly give you a better look.
If you need help finding a product try asking the ladies in the store they can usually direct you to the right products for your hair type. Watch out though they'll try to tell you that certian products are for male or female and you should buy the one for males but you'll actually get more buying the ones for females, don't know why but I noticed this, and they all work and contain the same materials. Hope this helps...sorry so long I got carried away.Hair wax and hair mousse for guys?
my friends (guy) uses hair wax it's called - gatsby moving rubber. it's way way beetter than gel (Y) and helps the spikes to stay in place. You can buy it on ebay (there cheapp as)... they are for both genders since i use it too (i am a girl --'). not to spike it but to make it look messy at the top layers of my hair. u can also, buy it at the supermarket - look at the hair section (shampoos, conditioner, hair spray, you should find mousse and hair wax there).
